Will Allari Naresh and Raghu kunche Bring Laughs?

The singer turned music director, Raghu Kunche has rocked in 2009 with Bumper Offer. The song ‘Endhuke Ravanamma..’ has become a great success and has become an asset to Raghu Kunche. Raghu has become busy as a composer now.

He has few films in the pipeline now, out of which two are Allari Naresh one’s alone. He has signed for ‘Betting Bangarraju’ under Prestigous Usha Kiran movies banner and the other Naresh film titled ‘MLA’ under AK Entertainment banner has also roped in Raghu.

This seems that Raghu is turning out big with small and medium-budgeted films. So, 2010 seems to be great opportunity for both the hero and music director.

Sambho Siva Sambho Movie Review

Movie: Sambho Siva Sambho
My Rating: 2.25/5
Banner: Sri Sai Ganesh Productions
Music: Sundar C. Babu.
Cinematography: PG Muttaiah.
Producers: Bellamkonda Suresh, Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas, Bellamkonda Ganesh Babu.
Direction: P. Samudrakhani.
Cast: Raviteja, Allari Naresh, Siva Balaji, Roja, Suneel, Priyamani, Ahuti Prasad, Sudha, Tanikella Bharani etc
Release Date: 14th Jan 2010

Review

Ravi Teja and Allari Naresh teamed up for the first time and this has set the right kind of expectations, also with the film being a remake of a Kollywood super hit ‘Nadodigal’, the scales have gone high.

Three friends (Ravi Teja, Naresh, Siva Balaji) would die for each other’s friendships and each of them have their own goals. Ravi Teja puts his time in quest of Government job to marry his uncle’s daughter (Priyamani). Allari Naresh puts efforts to go abroad for reasons untold. Siva Balaji tries for bank loan to start an own business and settle down.

However, the arrival of Ravi Teja’s friend who is keen on marrying the daughter of a factionist (Mukesh Rishi) gets the trio together and they help the love birds get married. In this process, their lives suffer a lot. Things get worse when they discover that the love birds are now on the verge of divorce and getting married elsewhere. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

In this multi-starrer movie, Ravi Teja is with high spirits as usual and sometimes loud as well. Overall, he has contributed well to the character and the story. This is one of the highlight performances from Naresh. He strikes a chord with the audience with his performance though the story may not be that appealing to our folks. Siva Balaji looks handsome and though he is overshadowed by the presence of Ravi Teja and Naresh, he manages to make his presence felt at many instances.

Priyamani has carried her role with ease and performance driven characters suit well for Priyamani though she opts for glamour. Abhinaya is beautiful and very talented. Despite her impairment of speech and sound, she has given a splendid act.

Mukesh Rishi was evil as usual, Sunil was loud but managed few smiles, Ahuti Prasad was average, Tanikella was neat, Sudha Rani was as per standard. The others didn’t have much to contribute.

Roja appeared in a mother role (mother to Ravi Teja’s friend) as an Ex-MP and her performance is just so-so.

Krishna Bhagawan is the only saving grace for the movie that could spill some laughs on a whole.

Despite the presence of an extremely talented star cast, the film has not been able to appeal much. Technically also, the film lacks luster.

Music could have been better and the sound track didn’t help the confused tempo of the movie.

One can see that ‘Tamil Paityam’ which is usually ‘over’ as per the Telugu standards. The dose of sentiment and the overdose of emotions are something hard to digest.

However, there are few good sequences that can be appreciated and the technical values are good as well. Background score was racy and two songs can be taken home but then their situation was not at all relevant. Overall, the film suffers tempo-problem with partly slow paced and partly fast. The dialogue part or comedy track or narration lacks taste. A few scenes sound interesting and heart-touching in second half. But again the graph falls down. This may not survive for long at the box office.

Cast: Venkatesh, Trisha, Brahmannadam, Dharmavarapu, Kasi Viswanath, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Mukesh Rishi, Subbba Raju, Surya, Prithvi, Master Bharat, Surekha Vani, etc

Review

Story

Venkatramana (Venkatesh) is a ventriloquist by profession and his only problem is marriage. He goes to European Telugu Association celebrations as a performer and encounters some interesting people there.

He is waiting for his dream girl to come. She comes in the form of Pooja (Trisha) but then, her uncle Paris Prasad (Brahmanandam) who is a manipulative kind of person creates a drama just for fun and convinces Venkatramana that Pooja is in love with him.

Meanwhile, Pooja’s marriage gets fixed with Bhadrappa (Subbaraju), the hardcore factionist and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Venkatesh: It was a Venky show all the way and he has shouldered it responsibly. However, the looks of age are showing on him and even his reflexes lack that emotion. Overall, he did a good job.

Trisha: Unlike in ‘King’ where she looked healthy and bright, Trisha looks quite dull and shrunk. Also, her character doesn’t have much to perform except be there on the screen and for the songs. So, not much hard work from her.

Brahmanandam: His character was developed well and Brahmi did justice to it in a good way. Some scenes emit a lot of hilarious moments and others could have been developed better. He scored good in this one.

Others: Mukesh Rishi was regular, so were Jayaprakash Reddy, Kota, Subbaraju and others. Ali was not upto the mark, M S Narayana was good as usual, Dharmavarapu and Kasi Viswanath generated few laughs, the others like Surekha Vani and Master Bharat were there for brand value but more could be extracted from their end. The ladies also had the same effect in terms of performance and contribution.

Highlights:

* Venkatesh dancing for songs Allu Arjun’s ‘Mr Perfect’ and ‘Ringa Ringa’ brought laughs in theaters
* Vehicle chasing is a visual treat
* Dog chasing is a mass entertainer

Disappointments:

* Music
* Lack of sufficient rib tickling dialogues and situations

Final Analysis:

The movie is a storehouse of entire Srinu Vaitla battalion again. The standard cast and crew he maintained for his previous films is seen in this entertainer as well. The concept is just an old wine in new bottle but the shape of bottle could be more interesting. The laughing riot is not worked to the level of his earlier entertainers. Brahmanandam is used well but the dose of script is a bit weak. Master Bharat who is a standard comedy star in Srinu Vaitla’s films is also not fully utilized.

First half of the movie is entertaining but the interval bang conveys something very interesting is waiting in second half. Even the interval liner is ‘Get Ready for Real Game’. But the game is very well in predictable limits. The movie stands out to be a wonderful entertainer for the audiences those didn’t watch ‘Dhee’ and ‘Ready’. But in comparison ‘Namo Venkatesa’ of Vaitla scores little less.

Music could be better to bring better mileage for the film. On a whole it’s a family entertainer for this Sankranthi season.

Om Shanti Movie Review

Movie: Om Shanti
My Rating: 2.5/5
Banner: Three Angels Studio
Music: Ilayaraja
Cinematography: Jai Vincent
Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh
Producer: Seshu Priyanka Chalasani
Direction: Chaitanya Dantuluri
Cast: Madhavan, Navadeep, Nikhil, Kajal Agarwal, Aditi Sharma, Bindu Madhavi, Murali Mohan, Ravi Kale, Sunil, Pragathi, Raghu Babu etc
Release Date: 13th Jan 2010

Review

Story

It is about five characters – Meghana (Kajal) who believes in variety and wants thrill at every second of life, Teja (Nikhil) who aims to be the next Ravi Teja in the film industry, Anand (Navadeep) who got rejected 8 times by prospective brides and is now working a way with the 9th alliance Anjali (Aditi), Noorie (Bindu) whose marriage gets fixed with an army man and she is waiting for him, a farmer’s wife (Pragathi) who has to bow to the pressures of her son and give away their farming lands. Each of them has their own story and how that brings about a change in them forms the essence.

Artists Performance:

Kajal: She is glamorous, she is seductive in one song and looks cute as usual in few scenes, otherwise not much for her in the performance department. She has repetitive expressions which must change.

Madhavan: He is a surprise package and though his presence was brief, thanks to ‘3 Idiots’ his screen aura is maintained here as well.

Navadeep: He has come up with a regular performance and did justice to his role. Usually, he has sparks of brilliance when it comes to comedy but here his character was different so just pass mark.

Nikhil: He has shown tremendous energy and has got a very expressive face. His role could have been developed in a better way and mixed with dose of humor, that would have worked.

Aditi Sharma: She did her bit as per the standards so not much complaints from her.

Bindu Madhavi: She has got the most minimal role in the entire lot and the contrast from a Brahmin girl in her debut to a Muslim girl in this one was visible.

Others: Sunil gave a highlight performance, Raghu Babu managed few smiles, Siva Reddy was wasted, Murali Mohan was alright, Tanikella was not used to the fullest, Ravi Kale is another talent that was wasted. Even the guy who did the cop’s role is a good talent but his role was not given proper justice.

Final Analysis:

One must have experience and the finesse when it comes to running several tracks and converging them into one. While the thought process of the director can be appreciated, he was not able to get it onto the screen successfully. His amateur handling of the script was quite visible and that’s why the film fails to impress. The dialogues were okay, the script was weak and the screenplay was erratic. Music department was a major disappointment despite the presence of Ilayaraja. Cinematography was better. Costumes were neat and the art department was apt. Technically, the film has scored well and the production values were high as well but the content and delivery of the product was not impressive. The film would have been a lot better if crisp stitching of each character was made instead of complicating it with several different scenarios. Overall, the film might have good opening collections due to the star power but eventually it may not be a success at the box office.

Story

It’s a story that runs on no suspense but humor. Like in many old movies, the twin brothers get separated at the time of birth. A Brahmin lady loses her child just a few minutes after his birth. The news first comes to the notice of an old woman in the family and she secretly replaces the dead-infant with a healthy baby from adjacent mother who delivers twins.

The adjacent mother leaves the hospital with single child assuming the other one died. Thus one boy grows up in Brahmin family as Chari (Jr NTR) and another grows up at his mother as Narsimha (Jr NTR).

While Chari is orthodox in speech, act and thought..Narasimha is rugged in every way. How these two brothers unite forms the climax. Chandrakala (Nayantara) pairs up with Chari and another cosmo-girl (Sheela) becomes the love interest of Narasimha.

Artists Performance:

Jr NTR lives up to the expectations in everything. He brought many laughs in theaters with his Brahmin character and hilarious characterization. Narasimha part is quite routine. His dances took away the breath of audiences. Especially his steps in ‘pilla na valla kaadu’ received once-mores in theatres. But the costumes part is very weak. Why did he put on jackets in every scene? That’s not understood.

Nayantara is slim and sleek while Sheela looted young hearts with glowing skin and sensuous garments. Nothing more is left for heroines than this to discuss.

Brahmanandam is ok as Bhattu but more is expected from him in last 30 minutes as well. The film would have brought better feel with that. Raghu Babu is good and MS Narayana is better. Tanikella Bharani aptly grooved in Brahmin’s role.

Highlights:

* Kondavalasa (in Amitabh Bachchan get up) as hero in Chakkera Takkuva (Cheeni Kum remake) brought laughs
* ‘Maa Baava Kallallo Aanandam Choodali’ dialogue of Ananth also brought hilarious attention
* The change of lyrics from ‘Where is that Panche Kattu, where is that pilaka juttu, where is that niluvu bottu…Chaari’ to ‘where is that panche kattu, where is that paatha bike, where is that old look…Chaari..’ is not good but should be accepted due to Censor reasons.
* VV Vinayak appears in a single frame in the song ‘Sambho Siva Sambho…’and that resulted in loud whistles and shouts in theatres
* NTR’s dances stood on the top
* Brahmanandam’s comedy as lover to Nayanatara impresses.
* Bad guy Mahesh Manjrekar also tried to make people laugh to some extent in the role of big Don.
* All songs are good visual treats

Disappointments:

* Sayaji Shinde’s character is half baked. Audiences didn’t understand if he were a positive or negative character. On a whole, the characterization graph is not complete.
* Climax is trash with senseless weapon theme. No one understood the logic and possibility of such a weapon that appears from air!!!

Final Analysis:

Observing the uncertainty of the release of this film in Hyderabad (due to Telangana agitators), I moved to coastal Andhra and reserved my ticket to watch as it’s my profession. But I found something interesting here. A few Osmania students have come here from Hyderabad with same uncertainty and met me in theatre. I understood, movie lovers know no boundaries and no politics can put iron curtains among the lovers of art.

Well, coming into the analysis part, it’s a ‘King’ kind of narration but action dominated comedy. Audiences got vexed up watching sentiment and violence in this type of story line, but prefer it when blended with loads of comedy. Although attempts are made with the characters like Bhattu (Brahmanandam) and Atma (MS Narayana), the dose isn’t sufficient. The requirement is certainly more.

First half brings an average feel while the second half breezes little better with more comedians. But the climax is predictable and abrupt. That is very well within the expected limits of common audiences. What marred the movie from attaining greater heights is only the weapon-episode and climax part.

On a whole, it’s a treat for movie lovers as NTR appeared on screen after a very long gap.

TRS Targets Junior NTR’s Movie

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) activists Tuesday attacked two cinema theatres here and destroyed hoardings of Telugu film “Adurs”, featuring Junior NTR, even as the film industry appealed to Telangana parties not to disrupt the screening of films.

A day after TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao’s daughter K. Kavita called upon people to stop the screening of “Adurs”, TRS workers attacked two theatres in Saroornagar area and damaged the film hoardings.

Films and film shootings of actors opposing bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh are facing the ire of pro-Telangana groups. The groups last month stopped screening of films of actor-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi’s son and nephew after he opposed statehood to Telangana.

Film shootings of the family members of Chiranjeevi and veteran actor Mohan Babu were also disrupted by protestors in and around Hyderabad.

Junior NTR’s father N. Harikrishna, a leader of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and a member of the Rajya Sabha, is also opposed to bifurcation of the state.

Since the family of legendary actor and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao comes from coastal Andhra region and stands for unified Andhra Pradesh, its members are facing protests in Telangana.

Junior NTR, the grandson of NTR, however, clarified late Monday that he was not opposed to any region. The popular actor appealed to people not to stop screening of “Adurs”, which is set to hit the screens Wednesday.

“I am born and brought up in Hyderabad. I will not go to any other place. I will die here,” he said referring to speculations that Telugu film industry was planning to shift to Chennai in view of Telangana agitation.

Meanwhile, the Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) met here Tuesday and appealed to people not to stop the screening of films. “We are only artists and belong to all regions. We have no political agenda,” said MAA president Muralimohan.

MAA leaders said it was unfair to target the films of even those actors who have not said anything on Telangana issue.

Chiranjeevi Rajakeeya Sanyasam???

Megastar Chiranjeevi who joined politics with the big dream of becoming the CM with a landslide victory has now slid to the deepest gorges and is literally left alone with an MLA tag. However, he has still been fighting hard and is currently battling the Telangana seekers with his ‘Samaikya Andhra ninaadham’.

Grapevine has it that, Chiru was anticipating becoming CM for Andhra if a separate state formation happens but that seems impossible now. He has been a leader on the screen but off screen, there is no mass following. The political gurus say that time has come for Chiru to take ‘Rajakeeya Sanyasam’.

His last breath of oxygen is the unified Andhra movement and if he fails to gather any mileage out of this, then the expected would happen. On the other side, with his beer belly and flabby growth, the film folks say that he may not be in a position to make a comeback either. Well, Chiru has all the answers for these.

So the next venture from Ravi is likely to be in the form of ‘Paranormal Activity’ in Telugu. Currently, the script is said to be in the working stages and if the film nagar folks are to be believed, then Ravi Babu might come up with a formal announcement as well.
