Review

Story:

Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) is an engineering graduate who wants to pursue his career as a film director. Samantha is his neighbour and he falls in love with her at the very first sight. But there are two catches. One is that she is elder to him and the bigger hitch is that she is a Malayali Christian. He proposes to her and she slowly falls for his guts and his perseverance. Her strict father comes to know about it and settles her marriage. She loves him, but can’t hurt her entire family by marrying him. The rest of the story is all about how Karthik achieves his passion to become a film director and tastes success at the personal front.

Artists Performance:

Naga Chaitanya: Naga Chaitanya is extremely natural in the role of Karthik. It is basically a conversational film with too many tight close-ups. It takes real confidence and acting prowess to do such scenes in an authoritative manner. Naga Chaitanya proves that he is a brilliant actor with his performance in this movie. His dialogue delivery and body language is highly authentic. You are not going to believe that this is his second film after watching his performance. It’s a top notch effort from him and he will do wonders in the future.

Samantha: Samantha’s debut is one of the best heroine debuts in Telugu cinema. This dusky beauty is highly charming and she is cool in acting as well. The minute expressions she gave spoke volumes about her. Lots of credit should go to director for etching her beautiful characterization. I absolutely loved the voice of the artist who dubbed her. She is the same one who dubbed the voice of Sameera Reddy in ‘Surya s/o Krishnan’. It’s husky and contemporary.

Others: Krishnudu is very good as hero’s friend. Sanjay Swaroop (producer and husband of Manjula) did the role of hero’s father and he suited it well. Puri Jagan played as himself for a few scenes. Trisha and Simbhu (who acted in the Tamil version of the same) did a cameo. All other actors are cast appropriately. Surekha Vani is very good.

Technical Departments:

Story: Men are simple and women are complex. When it comes to love, man proposes to a woman with plain heart and with no complications. Women, on the other hand make simple things complicated with their complex behaviour. Gowtam Menon has beautifully explored that point and penned a wonderful story of a simple guy who would do anything for love and a complex girl who keeps vacillating about taking decisions.
screenplay - direction: Screenplay of the movie is very good. The movie could end at any point after interval. It needs tremendous narrative skills and screenplay to make people get interested in the second half because the movie can end at the moment hero/heroine converge upon on marriage. I loved the love episodes between Surya and Sameera Reddy (train scene) in Surya s/o of Krishnan and wondered when he is going to make such a story into a full-leangth feature film and Gowtam Menon answered my wish with his next movie by filling it full of magical moments and sweet nothings. It’s a astonishing work by Gowtam Menon. You can’t separate a moment from the movie to be the best. This movie is like a seamless flow of visual poetry.

Other Departments:
Music by AR Rehman is awesome. Songs are extremely good and background score, rerecording and mixing is perfectly done. All songs are picturized extremely well. Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa breath-taking. The choice of locations and camera work blended seamlessly. Dialogues by Anuradha are extremely natural and contemporary. Art direction by Rajeevan is superb. Editing my Anthony is flawless. Production values by Indira Productions are impeccable.

Final Analysis:

I had never seen such a wonderful movie that deals with the straightforward nature of a man and complex nature of a woman so perfectly. Everybody must have gone through these moments in their lives and you are sure to get nostalgic watching some moments in this movie. The entire movie is excellent and extremely engaging except for 10 minutes (in second half from the breakup to the scene where other female proposes him). It takes guts and tremendous conviction makes a movie like Ye Maya Chesave from the director, producer and hero (It was Naga Chaitanya who set this combination up). All three of them should be appreciated for making this movie happen. Ye Maya Chesave movie should do extremely well in multiplexes and A centers. I wish/hope/want this movie to do well in B/C centers as well. This film has all the ingredients for a movie to remain as a timeless classic.

Go and watch it!!

Direction: Sekhar Kammula
Cast: Daggubati Rana, Richa Gangopadhyaya, Priya Anand, Subba Raju, Harshavardhan, Kota Sreenivasa Rao, Ahuti Prasad, Tanikella Bharani, Suhasini, Suman etc

Review

Story

Chief Minister Sanjeevayya (Suman) gets killed in a landmine blast. His son Arjun Prasad (Rana) descends as next CM but after a series of political games with his opponents and power greedy Dhanunjay (Subba Raju). Arjun’s paternal uncle (Kota) also moves against Arjun.

Arjun is idealistic in nature and wishes to change the rules of political system in the state. How far is he successful? What is the method he has chosen to make that change? How people react to that? Who helped him in his cause? How enemies try to put an end for him? All that forms the story.

Artists Performance:

Rana deserves right encomiums for his portrayal. He has underplayed the role as per the requirement. His voice and diction are good. If he concentrates better on working out expressions, he will be a promising actor.

Richa Gangopadhyaya is like a sheer poetry in some scenes. The credit goes to costumes department and also cinematographer.

Priya Anand looks good but her role is not fitting into the narration.

Subba Raju, the antagonist, played histrionics very well and up to the mark. Harshavardhan is perfectly in tune in his role as protagonist’s yes-man. Rao Ramesh made his presence felt even with his small role. Kota Sreenivasa Rao is serious. Director would have used him better with some satirical and humorous dialogues, as audience expect in general. Udaya Bhanu arrested the eyes of audience with her item number. Others are ok.

Cinematography is good. Music and RR are marvelous. It’s really the RR (Re-Recording) that brought emotional grip to narration.

Highlights:
Take off with landmine attack on CM
Udayabhanu’s glamour dose in item number
In first song, where Rana visits every slum and every corner to understand the society, is good. A scene where Rana leaves a cloth for a woman through water, reminds a bit from Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’.
Rana’s dialogue about his willingness to die after dealing with Rs 1 Lakh crore scheme brought claps in theaters.
Old man’s dialogue with Chief Minister about his daughter

Memorable Dialogues Those Attracted Claps And Whistles:
Tanikella: “Ivaala nijayiteega pani cheyyadamantene tyagam chesinattu anukuntunnaaru”
Rana with Gollapudi: “Meeku 70-80 yellu undochchu. Meeru gandhini taaki undochchu. Nehruni ee kallatho choosi undochchu. Mee anubhavam, chaduvu antaa avineetiki dhaaraposaaru. Postunaaru….meeru unte entha ..oodithey entha??”
Old Man with Rana: Aadapillaki nyaayam cheyyaleni CM unte entha oodithey entha?

Disappointments:
Priya Anand’s character seemed to be waste. The film would have run better without her character.
DI problems were seen here and there those marred the clarity of picture on screen
Suhasini’s death and funeral scenes are very weak

Final Analysis:

It’s a sincere effort by the director to sketch the present political scenario in independent India. He has chosen the theme of corruption by politicians as main curse to system. Many films have come on corruption. And it’s a different version.

The film also delivers some idealistic ideas of smoking out black money from public to avoid making the state indebted to World Bank et al.

Everything is fine. But in this drama where there are many political technicalities are involved, there are chances that the director may lose mass audience, although he impresses the audiences those think.

The director has taken many cinematic liberties; those make audience look at each other’s face for finding lack of conviction. And some clearly evident mistakes:

When Chief Minister dies, only men come to visit his dead body. When Chief Minister’s wife dies, only women come to visit her funeral!! Howzzat??!! What’s that gender discrimination?

The son of CM walks on roads and no one identifies him in today’s world where media is so rampant. Can anyone imagine YS Jagan or Lokesh walking on roads and none identifying them? That’s not convincing. Director would have shown that the son of CM is going into masses in disguise.

Leader minus heroines’ track would have been the best product. Director would have told better things those go with the main theme in the minutes wasted for so-called romance track. With little care, the film would have become something in the standards of ‘Sarkar’!!

There are many moments in the film where the director touches the hearts of audiences and pulls tears from eyes.

First half of the film catches up pace since the beginning scene and gives a captivating feel by interval. Audiences found themselves meditatively pulled towards the screen. That’s the magic created by the director. And that magic leaves the audiences expecting something great in second half. The pace goes with ups and downs but something promising appears immediately after old man scene.

The scenes run faster from then and culminate into climax in idealistic tone. It’s a sincere effort by director with his understanding. Audiences connect to it connecting the movie to the present political conditions.

The film certainly pulls huge crowds due to the image procured by the director with his previous film ‘Happy Days’. The content in the movie appeals for B and C center audiences as well, if they connect that to present political conditions and watch. On a whole it’s a sincere and good product.

Story

Ramesh, whose nickname is Rummy, gets into love with his friend Janaki in childhood itself. They spend good time together but Janaki advises him to grow powerful in society by earning big money. She also tells that she would marry him only then.

Rummy (Nagarjuna) becomes a gambler and starts earning. He betrays the men those become rich by false means through his gambling. ACP Sekhar (Sayaji Shinde) plans to catch Rummy but his attempts fail every time.

Rummy attracts Chandra (Ankur) who runs a pub and gambling in it. He settles a smuggling deal with Rummy and accomplishes that. In the meanwhile, in Goa, Rummy wins the heart of Linda (Nadia) as he saves her sister Sara (Poula) from a cruel man called Victor. Linda proposes to Rummy but he negates it.

On the other hand, Sandhya (Mamta Mohandas) helps Rummy in his missions. Who is Sandhya and what happened to Janaki? That is the suspense thread in the film that gets revealed in the climax.

Artists Performance:

Nagarjuna excelled as usual and there is no point to criticize him anywhere. He is looking younger year by year and that stands to be his USP.

Mamata Mohandas is just ok. She could have shined better being a glamorous quotient on silver screen. Costumes and make up could be better.

Brahmanandam brought many hopes whenhe entered but more was expected from him. Harshavardhan did good job.

Others are ok. Ankur in bad guy character did his best.

Cinematography is good. Editing is crisp and direction is commendable. Lyricist Chinni Charan wrote all the songs in the film and all are in tune with the contemporary taste of audience. But the music could have elevated the beauty of songs.

Highlights:
Harshavardhan
Cinematography
'Mayagadu raa ee Mayamashinda...' haunts venafter walking out from theatres.
'Mu mu muddante chedaa.. brought applauses in theatres

Disappointments:
Music
Too many twists confused the narration
Anushka appearance in introduction song is not in tune with expectations

Final Analysis:

This is the movie that has been in news ever since the announcement of its title. The stills with youthful get up of Nagarjuna pulled the attention of many and the first proposed title ‘Rummy’ also caught the attention. Later, it was announced that the title changed to ‘Mosagadu’ that sounded rugged and old. Finally another obsolete title ‘Kedi’ was zeroed in. Many felt ‘Rummy’ could be the ideal title for this film as the hero’s nick name is Rummy (Ramesh) and it is also a card game that denotes gambling, the main crux of the movie.

The director's lack of experiance is seen when he used the two energetic songs in the beginning itself. He might have used them in before the climax.

First half and second half go in similar tone with entertainment. The films like ‘Super’, where Nag played a role with negative tinge will be recalled while watching this.

Audiences sit with expectations when Anushka appears on screen with a special song imagining something in the standards of ‘bommali..bommali..’. But the expectations aren’t reached.

New director Kiran tried to give a full dose entertaining treat and he has failed to accomplish. It's confusing for masses. The love angle and emotions aren’t presented in a subtle way to attract class audience.

Review

Story

Set on the backdrop of Chittoor, there is a political/faction feud between Seshadri Naidu (Jayaprakash) and Mahendra Naidu (Ahuti Prasad). It gets violent so Mahendra Naidu gets all his relatives under his home so that they are not harmed.

They call Ajay (Manoj) as well but none of them like him due to a flashback of his father. Ajay meets Girija (Sheena), his ‘maradhalu’ and love sparkles.

Meanwhile, things get into further complications between both Naidus so Ajay decides it is time to resolve this.

How does he do that and whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story…

Artists Performance:

Manchu Manoj:
He is the life and soul of the movie. With an energetic performance, he did his bit but then his face looks exhausted and drained. Imitation of his father Mohan Babu was deliberately evident.

Sheena:
She has a sweet face and is fresh. Though she has an oomph filled body, it is her baby face that takes away the attention and she provided the required visual feast in songs and did her bit well for a debut attempt.

Ahuti Prasad:
Not much for him in terms of performance and he could carry it off easily without a hitch.

Jayaprakash Reddy:
He must have done this kind of role a hundred times by now so not much for him as well. Instead, there is no regular comedy from him that is usually his trademark in villainy.

Others:
Raghu Babu, Brahmanandam gave their share of laughs, Sunil was okay, Subbaraju and Supreeth did their bit as required. Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao was brief, the man doing Ahuti Prasad’s brother’s character has a strong screen presence, Banerjee, Kasi Vishwanath, master Bharath, Vennela Kishore, Telangana Sakunthala and the rest of them breezed in and out.

Interesting Scenes:

* Manoj (with heroine): ‘Naaku rendu vishayalante chaala ishtam. Okati nuvvu…inkoti scenes lu kattirinchani englisu cinema..” (this dialogue has got huge response in theater)
* MS Narayana (as Muslim peer): pillavaadidi ekkada undi?

Sunil: Pillavaadi daggare undandi (this also has got situational pun and brought loud laughs)

* Manoj’s action scenes are impressive
* The fight scene composed at water point is technically strong and emotionally in depth that pulled the attention of audiences strongly.
* Master Bharat’s performance
* Vennela Kishore did well but his role could have got extended

Final Analysis:

The movie takes off on a mediocre tone and runs pretty average in first half. The hook is not established with clarity till the interval. The momentum picks up in second half and the real comedy starts driving the narration. MS Narayana’s episode pumps in some comedy and the eventual flow goes with inspiration of films like Ready, Dhee etc.

The attempt to make a hilarious action entertainer is laudable but the execution part has suffered some ups and downs with screenplay. The dialogues are also not up to the conviction (especially the Brahmin Villain’s dialogues in climax has got no clarity and the language has gone out of bound suddenly) and at times failed to grip the interest levels of audiences.

This bumpy ride comes to an end with first half and second half takes to the climax smoothly.

On a whole, it’s a movie for audiences those come to theaters without any expectations.

‘Leader’ In Copy Right Controversy

Leader-Movie-Walpapers
Shekar Kammula’s directorial ‘Leader’ with Rana as a debutant is landed with copy right controversy. Writer Shiva, who works in film industry, claimed that the basic idea behind the story of Leader is his own and he also filed a complaint in writers association against director Shekar Kammula and has demanded a compensation of Rs.25lakhs.

On the other way Shekar Kammula refused with his statement and said, “ I need not to lift somebody else story to make my film. I still have number of concepts in my brain for my future projects. If, I agree to pay even a single rupee it proves that I really copied his story “.

”While the ongoing Andhra-Telangana agitations are severely affecting the film industry, this kind of claims will further ruin the producers,” he added.

Magadheera Stills
Although the movie has earned lot of records and has completed its 175 days of run, Magadheera still seems to be getting through controversies.

A novelist SP Chari, claimed that Magadheera is the copy of his novel Chanderi that was published in a Telugu weekly for 36 weeks and is demanding Rs50 lakhs as a compensation for using his idea.

Chary says that “Magadheera film is the copy of the novel Chanderi that was published in a Telugu weekly for 36 weeks, 12 years back. When Magadheera was released, I was in Australia and I couldn’t stop the release of the film. Mean while Allu Arjun and Allu Sirish have requested me through mails not to go to court. They have earned more than Rs120 Crs from Telugu and planning to remake the film in Hindi. Now My demand is that they should pay Rs50 lacs other wise I will knock the doors of High court for violating the copy right act.
