And now, James Cameron’s magnum opus is about to start a new trend for Hollywood films in India by becoming the first ever 3D Hollywood film to be released in “Tamil’ and "Telugu".
While Hollywood films like “X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and “2012′ have been dubbed in local languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, 3D Hollywood films like “Ice Age 3′ were only dubbed in Hindi so far.
However, looking at the growing response to Hollywood films from the Tamil market, Fox Star Studios India will now be releasing the 3D version of “Avatar’ in Telugu too.
Commenting on this pioneering move, Mr. Vijay Singh, Fox Star Studios India said, “The local market for Hollywood films is growing at a very fast rate and there is an unprecedented hype surrounding “Avatar’ across India. We therefore decided to release the 3D version in Telugu too, as it is an important market.”
Fox Star Studios India is releasing the film in around 700 prints in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, which is by far one of the biggest releases for a Hollywood film in India.
In Tamil Nadu itself, the studio will be releasing the film in more than 100 prints (English and Tamil together) beating the record of “2012′ which was released in less than 100 prints in the same market.
Mr. Swaroop Reddy, Director, Sathyam Cinema (the distributor for “Avatar’ in Tamil Nadu) says, “‘Avatar’ is undoubtedly the most awaited movie of the decade and we at Sathyam Cinemas are all revved up about it; especially since we’re releasing it in digital 3D too. The audiences here are eager to watch James Cameron’s latest spectacle after ‘Titanic’ and we’re expecting nothing short of a phenomenal response at the cinemas.”
The film, due to release on Dec 18 is already garnering an overwhelming response worldwide from the early screenings.
